You can choose a complete HR Outsourcing package or you can select individual elements as and when you require them, providing you with a truly flexible and cost effective solution.  You can ask us to do anything you would ask your internal HR Department to do!

HR Department NI is a local Northern Ireland based HR consultancy and we value the importance of knowing our business partners.  We aim to build strong personal relationships, develop mutual understanding and deliver consistent results.   Our approach is to listen and spend time understanding your business, your requirements and your culture so that we get it right first time.  HR Department NI approaches each client relationship with enthusiasm, passion and drive to provide creative solutions to client HR issues.   Building on a shared understanding of the needs of your business and where we can add value, we strive to achieve long-term partnerships with our clients.   Whilst statutory compliance is a foundation stone of all that we do, HR Department NI continually strives to provide creative solutions to meet the needs of our clients’ businesses, enabling them to achieve their goals and objectives.

HR Business Partner

Our business model is based on offering a true HR Business Partner service to our clients.   As our client you will have a dedicated HR Business Partner to look after your needs.  Your HR Business Partner will visit your business, consult with you and be your HR support when you need HR or Employment Advice.  You control the partnership model – determining how much support you want and which manner you would like it delivered in i.e. we can visit you regularly on site, talk on the phone, respond to HR queries via email or a mixture of all. 

HR Documents and Templates

In May 2017 our founder Johanna Scullion launched The HR Doc Shop™ an online service designed for small business owners who want professionally drafted HR documents and templates available for instant download without the need to engage a HR Consultant. 


At the HR Doc Shop ™ it is our mission to fill in the resource gap for small businesses who do not have in-house HR staff to draft documents for them. We save small business owners time and money by providing them with customisable ready to edit documents and templates for instant download that they can use in their business straight away.

By providing flexible purchase solutions for small business owners, we make it just as easy for them to access a single letter for the one-off employee query; or to access all our documents at once. Understanding the importance of branding to all business owners, we have designed our products so all templates are customisable and ready to edit, making it easy for you print on your own stationary once you are ready.

 We remove the fear of HR for small business owners by simplifying the confusing world of HR.

Principal Profile |Johanna Scullion MCIPD

HR Department NI was founded by Johanna Scullion who is a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (Chartered MCIPD).   Johanna has been a Human Resources Professional since 1999, with experience gained initially in industry before moving into the professional consultancy sector in 2003.  She spent four years with Grant Thornton UK LLP as both HR Consultant and Staff Development Manager, followed by almost five years working for the eminent consultancy firm Deloitte in its UK Human Capital Consultanting Service Line.  Drawing from front-line experience, Johanna offers HR consultancy to clients in the public, private and not for profit sectors.  Working with clients with workforces of 10 through to organisations with 9,000 staff she has taken lead role in a wide range of assignments from interim HR solutions to multi-level operational HR projects, strategic organisation design and change projects.   Her client portfolio includes NI and UK Public Sector Government Departments, Local Government Councils, social enterprise agencies, schools, colleges, universities, accountancy practices, dentists, architect practices, diary co-operatives, construction, retail, IT, call-centres, voluntary and not for profit organisations.  Johanna is also a competent trainer and presenter. 


Johanna was an associate part-time lecturer in Organisational Behaviour and Human Resource Management with the University of Ulster, Jordanstown since between 2005 and up until 2016, when she reluctantly resigned to focus on her growing consultancy business.


An honours graduate in European Business Studies and German Johanna holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resources Management received with commendation.  She is trained and certified in administering psychometric testing techniques of Thomas International and acts as expert panel member for interviewing purposes. 


In 2012 Johanna took the plunge into the world of entrepreneurship establishing her own boutique HR consultancy practice called HR Department NI. HRDNI specialises in providing employment advice and Outsourced Human Resources Services to start-up companies, small and medium sized businesses based in Northern Ireland. HRDNI is passionate about providing smaller businesses with a portfolio of professional human captial management services, often associated only with large scale businesses. Through her consultancy practice Johanna strives to be the best in Northern Ireland by delivering excellent customer service for all of our clients, working hard at our reputation for professionalism, reliability and integrity.

In 2017 Johanna realised a long-term dream of launching an online service providing professionally drafted HR documents and templates for small businesses. www.thehrdocshop.com was born.
